The Rockport Police Department Bike Unit began in 1994. The unit consists of six officers, all of whom are certified as Police Cyclists by the International Police Mountain Bike Association (PMBA). The unit is part of the Directed Patrol Function and is deployed throughout the city on a year-round basis. The bike unit also performs patrol duties for community events such as Seafair, parades, the Fourth of July celebration at Rockport Beach, and the Rockport "Tropical Christmas" Festival.
