Charles "C.J." Wax, the son of a career Air Force Officer, was born in Newport News, Virginia in 1947. One of five children, C.J. graduated from high school in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, before accepting a Presidential Appointment to the United States Air Force Academy. He graduated from the Academy in 1969 with a degree in International Relations and Political Science, and was accepted into Air Force Pilot Training to begin his own Air Force career. His subsequent education included military schools, including the National War College in Washington, a Master's Degree from the University of Southern California in Systems Management, the Executive Management Seminar at the University of New Hampshire, and selection for Seminar XXI at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
With over 33 years of service, he served in the Pacific, Middle East, Europe and the United States, and at all levels of command from individual squadrons to the Office of the Secretary of Defense. He was selected to command at every level from Squadron through Wing, Center and Service. He transitioned from active duty in 2002 as the Commander of the Army Air Force Exchange Service at the rank of Major General.
After retirement, C.J. was called back to service in the Department of Defense as a Task Force Director for the Secretary of Defense until 2006. Following that service, he has been involved in Business Consulting in the leadership and management fields. His concentration has been in the retail environment, assisting companies with global operations.
C.J. moved back to Rockport fulltime in 2006, becoming active in the Key Allegro Men's Club and Homeowners Association, where he was elected President. C.J. was appointed to the City's Planning & Zoning Commission and, in May 2010, was elected Mayor of the City of Rockport. In 2012, Mayor Wax was re-elected to that position. Mayor Wax was also elected by the representatives of TML Region 11 to serve as the Region 11 Board Representative on the TML Board of Directors. He also represents the City on the Coastal Bend Council of Governments, the Rockport-Fulton Economic Development Council, and the Aransas County Pathways and Stormwater Advisory Committees.
C.J. and Susan, his wife of 44 years, have two children, Wendy and Brandon. Wendy and her husband Mark live in Ithaca, NY, with their two daughters, Sara and Katerina. Brandon and his wife Brandi live in Houston with their four daughters, Caroline, Sydney,Tara and Mary.
C.J. is a life member of the Air Force Academy Association of Graduates and the Air Force Association, the Airlift Tanker Association and the World Affairs Council.
